I remember using the corded version way back when i was an apprentice we always found our leaks.

I used the H-10 B GE style leak detector for many years and that is the only leak detector that I would use. Finally Inficon came out with the D-tek and it worked so well that I laid aside my H-10, mostly because of not having to find 115 volt power . Then came the HFC refrigerants. I never was satisfied with heated diode Sensor for HFC. It did work when new but lost sensitivity quickly with age. Have you made improvements to the heated diode sensor so that it will work well with HFC’s?
I am currently using infrared sensor technology and it is the best I have found but would like something better for HFC’s.

The H-10 G and H-10 PM were both good instruments that worked great on older refrigerants, like: R-22, R-12, and R-134a. Once the refrigerant blends were introduced, they required that the heater voltage be increased slightly in order to achieve a response. (While increasing the heater voltage slightly and using the leak detectors in the “SMALL” leak range and “MANUAL” mode did provide response to leaks, it also reduced the lifespan of the sensor.)
The H-10 PRO was designed to detect all refrigerants and, although it looks like the H-10 PM externally, it is totally different under the hood. The main PC board was re-designed and a different pump was used to provide optimal response to every refrigerant on the market. R-410A, HFO1234yf, along with all of the original refrigerants previously detected with the H-10 G and H-10 PM are now detectable as the H-10 PRO is received by the customer. In general, the H-10 PRO readily detects all CFC, HFC and HCFC refrigerants.
The H-10 G and H-10 PM had a reputation for being the best leak detector for decades. Now, with a growing number of refrigerant blends, the H-10 PRO is quickly being recognized as the “Best Leak Detector” for these refrigerant blends as well as all the older refrigerants.

When I was in my teens, working with my dad, he swore by the original H-10 BY G.E. (Ok, yes that was 50 years ago,) Since then, I have bought so many leak detectors over the years and found some that work ok, some that mislead you, and some that are excellent. Currently I have 3 on the truck besides the dye’s and ultrasonic. The infrared works, just not quickly, the D-tek used to work well, but doesn’t seem responsive after several years. The best so far is the Bacharach Dual, has a changeable sensor tip for natural gas and refrigerants. This is interesting, looks like I’m going to have to check this one out.

The Informant®2 (the dual gas detector you mentioned) is a great instrument, but the H-10 PRO is far more responsive to the presence of refrigerant blends like R-410A. Give the H-10 PRO a try and we’re confident that you won’t need anything else (UV dye, soap bubbles, etc.) for chasing refrigerant leaks.
I’ve been in the HVAC business for 21 years and I’m on my 2nd H series leak detector. My H-60 just stopped working and now I’ve got the H-10 PRO. I was amazed at how much faster and more responsive it was then my previous 2, but one question since it is rechargeable does the equipped power cord double as a power source and will charging it through my service trucks power supply damage the unit,the included info is pretty vague.

You are able to power the H-10 PRO with the included AC charger. If using the AC charger and a power inverter in your truck, there will be no problems with damaging the unit. If using the DC auxiliary cable and the truck’s 12 volt battery, the H-10 PRO’s battery will charge but may never indicate a “full” charge.
